news! cover reveals, preorders, &c.

Hello friends! In case you missed it on social media, my US and UK covers have been revealed—and preorders are OPEN!

The UK cover (Angry Robot):

Cover design by Alice Coleman

The US cover (Orbit):

Cover design by Lisa Marie Pompilio; cover illustration by Balbusso Twins

Jordan was once a Lost Boy, convinced she would never grow up. Now, she’s twenty-two and exiled to the real world, still suffering withdrawal from the addictive magic Dust of her childhood. With nothing left to lose, Jordan returns to the Island and its stories—of pirates and war and the heartlessness of youth—intent on facing Peter one last time, on her own terms.

If that makes her the villain…so be it.

I have very strong ideas about elements I like in book covers, but both designs went above and beyond what I could have imagined and I love them so much ヾ( ˃ᴗ˂ )◞ • *✰

If you’d like to read an excerpt, you can check out the first few pages at Fantasy Hive!

For US ARC requests, feel free to DM me on Twitter (I said what I said) or Instagram—I have a spreadsheet. I will also (probably) put out another newsletter when it’s up on NetGalley.

For UK/Australia/New Zealand ARC requests, you can fill out this form.

Also, just as a heads up, because I have already been Hearing Things (i.e., my parents have been pitching it to coworkers and extended family LOL)—this is probably not an ideal children’s book. There is sex, drug use, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and a not-insignificant amount of swearing. I think it should be fine for most high schoolers, but maybe hold off on handing it to your fourth grader 😅

In other news:

  • Requiem,” one of the first short stories I’ve ever written, about classical music as magic and magic as attempted assimilation, was published in Diabolical Plots in September. In its November issue, Locus called it “a bracing and complex read” (!!!)

  • My essay “A Liminal Magic: Diaspora Parallels in Freya Marske’s A Marvellous Light” was published in the final issue of Fantasy Magazine in October!

  • I’m offering a query + first 10 pages manuscript critique through the Books for Palestine auction. Bidding ends at 11:45 pm on the 11th, so be sure to check out all the donations before then!

  • A democratic participation tip that I recently learned and have been yelling at everyone I know: if you have phone anxiety, you can call your reps after hours and leave a message via voicemail!

Things I’ve been reading:

  • The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White—Victorian-era horror, a trans autistic MC, furious ghosts, and so so many feelings about gender and bodies and societal constructs of illness

  • Borne by Jeff VanderMeer—I actually read this for class, but unfortunately Wick is post-apocalyptic blorbo now (even if the titular character is more blorb-y. A technicality)

  • Space Boy by Stephen McCranie—I don’t read a lot of webtoons, but many thanks to Leanne Yong for introducing this one to me! Sharp melancholy dialogue, epic twists, so much [REDACTED] angst

  • I think this tweet is my Roman Empire now:

Thanks for reading! Have a Spot pic:
